Not Better Than, but Better Off!

One of the things that was especially hard for me when I became an exotic entertainer was that other people didn’t support my decision. Being an exotic entertainer was almost a “sin” to my friends and family. They wrote me off as a bad person. Now, I’m not saying that that is your reality too, but I know a lot of exotic entertainers who feel the same way. It’s very rare to have family and friends who support what you do. So, if you do have that, I am so happy for you! And even a little bit envious. 

Most of us don’t have people around us who support us or have nice things to say that are non judgemental to our career choice. But, I always say that they don’t have to like it because if I like it that’s all that matters. At the end of their day, they don’t have to live with my choices. I have to live with my choices. And honestly, if I had chosen the type of jobs they chose, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself and that choice. I would just be so unhappy and so unfulfilled. 

Sometimes, this can cause us to feel really lonely and isolated. Like no one cares. I think it’s the opposite. I think our family and friends DO care. I think they are just disappointed for whatever their reasons are, and they don’t know how to show their support when they don’t like what we do. Please know your family and friends do care about you, they just don’t know how to show it when we are doing things that society doesn’t really approve of. 

On a flip side, I can say that I make way more money than they do at the end of my day. I always have money, while everyone else around me struggles. I don’t mean this in an offensive way, or that I’m better than them. I’m just saying that I am better OFF than they are. And there is a massive difference there. I’m not better than them, I'm better off!
